Moose Watch: 2010

Thanks to those who have inquired about Mister Moose.
I am pleased to report that he is well and living in semi-retirement in Colorado.

With a buffalo.

Yes, life is FULL of surprises :)
I know that all his legion of fans wish him well, as do I.

New socks!

Mister Moose is quite excited to be able to put his Halloween socks aside. As much as he loves them, he was ready to move on already. The white pair has teddy bears embroidered on them, and it says "I love Santa" on the bottom of the feet. The red pair are very stylin'.

Merry Christmoose, everyone!

It's Christmoose Day!

Santa left a little gift bag under the tree for Mister Moose. I wonder what it is? Open it already, Mister Moose!

It's Christmoose Eve

Here's Mister Moose posing with the finished products. Yes, there are two Rudolph's; we don't pretend to know how that happened. There used to be four gingerbread boys that won't stand up, but Auntie Tink *~*~* ate one for breakfast before he was even frosted. He was quite good dunked in a cup of coffee!

Supervised by Mister Moose

Mister Moose assumes a supervisory position atop the brand spankin' new Cuisinart 800 watt mixer. Anyone who has ever experienced the agony of hand-mixing stiff cookie dough will be able to appreciate our excitement at having this tool at our disposal this year. No more aching arms and broken wooden spoons! Mister Moose is going to watch and make sure that we are properly rolling out and cutting the gingerbread dough.

Merry Christmoose!

It's the Eve of Christmoose Eve, and we're going to make gingerbread cookies with the Nieceling. Mister Moose has been looking forward to this! So far we have made the dough and had it in the refrigerator for several hours. Now we get to roll it out and cut the various pieces to fit together for our gingerbread display.

Well, that was our day in New York City

Despite the cold and the crowds, we had an awesome time today. The show was great, and the company was wonderful. When we got to Penn Station, I was able to use my old commuter's telepathy to determine where to stand on the platform. The doors opened RIGHT in front of us, and we were able to easily secure seats for the ride home.

Mister Moose is going to have a hot bath and probably a hot toddy and then allow me to tuck him under the flannel sheets to rehearse for the "long winter's nap". In a few hours, it'll be only two more days till Christmas! Thanks for joining us today. Hope you all enjoyed it!

Strike a pose

Did you know that Mister Moose was actually the stunt double for the famous shot in Disney's film The Lion King where Simba is presented by Rafiki to the kingdom? Neither did we, until Mister Moose told us! Here, he re-enacts his touching performance, assisted by a niece.

NBC Studios

Walking back to Penn Station, Mister Moose dashed into NBC Studios for a few moments to touch base with executives who want to document his life and travels in a made-for-TV mini-series. Mister Moose was his gracious self, and said he'd consider it.

At last, the tree!

The crowds here were just ridiculous. We managed to find a small area near enough to the tree to take a few photos. It was clear that we would not get anywhere near the railing to observe any skaters that might be floating around below, so we fought our way out of there and managed to get across Avenue of the Americas just as the police were closing that crosswalk and demanding that people cross further uptown. Whew!

Ah, we're getting close!

Rockefeller Center! Mister Moose told us quite confidentially that is was he who served as the artists model for this sculpture... we were just speechless and wide-eye with awe to be told this little bit of trivia. That Mister Moose! Where do his talents end?

Mister Moose Considers A Life In The Priesthood

While passing St. Patrick's Cathedral, Mister Moose became quite solemn, declaring that his TRUE most fond wish was to enter the priesthood and become the pastor of the Cathedral. Unfortunately, it was discovered that he is ill suited to a life of prayer, since he's got no knees upon which to pray. Poor Mister Moose!

Mister Moose Visits Cartier

What a gentlemen! He offered to buy me a diamond-encrusted watch, but then realized he'd left all his credit cards and cash in his other pants... I was too polite to mention that he doesn't own any pants, and in fact was not wearing any. But what a guy!

Mister Moose Considers Becoming A Rockette

Making our way through the horrible crowds, we stopped for a photo op across from Radio City Music Hall. Mister Moose was very keen on joining the Rockettes. Unfortunately, his application was rejected because he did not make the height requirement. However, if you ask Mister Moose, I'm sure that he will express his regret that he had to decline due to the discomfort of wedging his hooves into those dreadful high heels....

and MORE lights

Big-screen TVs have bred like rabbits in the theater district. Here we have one advertising M&Ms.

More lights

Wish I could take it home

Marquis

Due to the ever-present construction all over the place, there just wasn't a good place to stand to capture the theater's marquis. This is the best I could do.

Outside after the show

Waiting for the others to finish their potty break, I wandered outside and discovered the street had come to life with lights.

The Lunt-Fontanne Theater

The logo is also etched on the glass doors to the theater.

The show's logo

Outside the theater during intermission, I found this set of double doors painted with the show's logo. Love it!

OK, I snuck another

Here's Mister Moose with the Playbill for The Little Mermaid. The show was quite good. We loved Ariel, but we ADORED Ursula - what a voice! What comedic timing! Mister Moose was quite smitten with her before she'd even finished her first number. Niece No. 1, age 18, declared the second act to be better than the first, because it was truer to the film version, upon which she was weaned. I personally loved the moment where Ariel SAVED HERSELF INSTEAD OF WAITING FOR DADDY OR THE PRINCE TO SAVE HER. You go, girl!

Just before the curtain

My one and only apparently clandestine photo of Mister Moose inside the theater. An usher scurried over to someone else right in front of us just after I took this shot and told a patron that photography was absolutely forbidden and to put away the camera. Oops!

At last, we're here!

Here I've recruited the assistance of one of the nieces to herald the arrival of Mister Moose at the theater. We're quite excited to be here!

Mister Moose Considers A News Career

Times Square is full of lights and advertisements. Mister Moose decided he might like to join a news agency, as reporters travel quite frequently. However, it soon became apparent that Mister Moose's appendages are not quite up to the task of typing, owing to the fact that he's got no fingers to speak of. Alas for Mister Moose - another ambition crushed. But he took it bravely, chin up.

Mister Moose Considers The Military

Well, he only considered it briefly. This military recruitment station is smack dab in the middle of Times Square. As the recruiters talked, Mister Moose began to realize that his life as a mooching traveler would come to an abrupt end. So, he decided to confess that both of his feet are flat (not to mention unusually fuzzy for a soldier), whereupon the recruiters immediately lost interest. Whew! Another narrow escape for Mister Moose!

Yum!

Mister Moose and I had the chicken pot pie and "endless salad". It came with an avacado ranch dressing on the side, and a pile of sliced strawberries. It was the perfect lunch for a cold day - thumbs up!
